Description Located in the natural surrounds of Nakajima Park and designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, the Watanabe Junichi Museum of Literature has an exhibition room on the 2nd floor, a 1st-floor library that boasts an extensive collection of novels by popular Hokkaido-born writers, and a lecture room that can accommodate 90 people in the basement.

  • 9:30 – 17:30 (Oct. – Feb.) (Last entry is 30 minutes before closing)
Closed Mondays (Tuesday if Monday falls on a national holiday)
Admission fee
  • 300 yen for high school students and older
  • 50 yen for elementary and junior high school students

Hokkaido Museum of Literature

Description The museum has about 220,000 items associated with Hokkaido-related novelists and their works, such as Takuboku Ishikawa, Takeo Arishima and Takiji Kobayashi.
Hours 9:30 – 17:00 (Last entry is 30 minutes before closing)
Closed Mondays, year-end and New Year holidays (Dec.29 – Jan.4), days exhibits are changed
Admission fee
  • 400 yen for adults
  • 200 yen for high school and university students
  • Free of charge for those aged 65 and over and junior high school students and younger
